Article: 53/4203
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has published a rapid risk assessment after a case of Zika virus (ZIKV) was laboratory confirmed in Hyères city, Var department, France, on 1 October 2019.
Based on the ECDC epidemiological assessment, the probability of ongoing vector-borne local transmission in Hyères and surrounding areas is considered very low as current evidence does not indicate the existence of a more extensive cluster of ZIKV cases.
Temperatures progressively decrease during the autumn, and so environmental conditions are currently not favourable for sustained transmission.
