On 14 October 2021, Public Health Scotland (PHS) started publishing an updated version of the weekly national respiratory surveillance report, providing epidemiological information on influenza and other laboratory-confirmed respiratory pathogens, excluding SARS-CoV-2, along with syndromic surveillance based on calls received by NHS 24 and primary care consultations in Scotland. The combined information is used to provide a picture of respiratory illness in Scotland.

The weekly national respiratory report also includes seasonal influenza vaccine uptake data for the 2021 to 2022 programme, which provides influenza vaccine uptake among those who have been invited to receive vaccination at this stage in the programme.

This year's vaccine uptake data are not directly comparable with previous flu seasons due to changes in the methods of recording data as part of the Scottish Government’s Vaccine Transformation Programme (VTP), and the development of the TURAS Vaccine Management Tool (VMT), a web-based application which records people’s vaccination data.
