COVID-19 - SARS-CoV-2 Virus Detection Testing within Scotland: A Guide for non-NHS Laboratories

Publication Date: 23 March 2021

This is Version 1.0. If you do not see this version when you open the document, please refresh your browser as you may be seeing a previously cached version.

This document provides guidance for non-NHS laboratory testing for SARS-CoV-2 within Scotland, including ensuring there is a process in place for a reactive test within the Non-NHS laboratories to inform contact tracing via Test & Protect or local health protection teams. This should be achieved by the establishment of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a local NHS lab.

It should be noted that SARS-CoV-2 is a notifiable organism which must be reported to Public Health Scotland (PHS) or local health protection teams by the directors of the relevant laboratories as per the Public Health (Scotland) Act 2008.
