Decontamination Literature Review - Time to Clean

The aim of this literature review is to review the evidence base on the time currently being spent by healthcare workers on decontamination of communal reusable patient care equipment.

Objectives

  • To provide an estimate of the time currently being spent by healthcare workers on cleaning communal reusable patient care equipment, both nationally and internationally, as described in the literature.
  • To assess the impact of the time spent cleaning communal reusable patient care equipment on healthcare-associated infection rates and patient safety.
  • To identify opportunities for improving the cleanliness of communal reusable patient care equipment by increasing the time healthcare workers spend cleaning.
