Delivering the VTEC/E. coli O157 Action Plan for Scotland - Final report

Publication Date: 20 June 2019

“VTEC/E. coli O157 is an important public health challenge in Scotland. It has the potential to cause large outbreaks, and its effects can be devastating…… and the incidence of E. coli O157 in Scotland is the highest in the UK”.

The above statement was made in the Scottish Government’s VTEC/E. coli O157 Action Plan for Scotland and despite the work which has been undertaken by the VTEC Action Plan Implementation Group, this position remains pertinent today as the number of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157 infections remains steady.

This report outlines the actions and improvements which have been achieved in delivering the recommendations within the Action Plan.
