HPS Weekly National Seasonal Respiratory Report - week ending 6 October 2019

For the 2019 to 20​20 season, the format of the HPS National Seasonal Respiratory Report has changed to that of an Official Statistics publication (Experimental).​​

In week 40:

  • ​​The rate of influenza-like illness (ILI) was at Baseline activity level (5.5 per 100,000).
  • ​The proportion of NHS24 respiratory calls was at Baseline activity level (17%).
  • The swab positivity in primary care was at Baseline activity level (0%, 0/14).
  • The swab positivity in secondary care was at Baseline activity level (1.8%, 10/58).
  • The number of acute respiratory illness outbreaks reported was at Baseline activity level ​(n=1).​
  • The number of influenza cases with severe infection (SARI) requiring intensive care management reported was at Baseline activity level (n=1).
  • No SARI deaths were reported in week 40.
  • All-cause mortality showed a Small excess in all ages and those aged 65 years and above in week 38.
  • Rhinovirus continues to be the most common non-flu respiratory pathogen reported through secondary care and is at Low activity levels. Rest of the non-flu respiratory pathogens was at Baseline activity levels.​
