Pneumocystis pneumonia (PcP): Patient Information

Pneumocystis pneumonia is caused by a fungus called Pneumocystis jirovecii. This fungus is commonly found in the environment and rarely ​causes any illness to healthy people. It was previously known as Pneumocystis carinii.
